Culture insidiously impacts Christians by pressuring them to conform to the world's image (Romans 12:2). The New Testament variously refers to culture as the flesh, carnality, the wisdom of this age, the spirit of this work,d and the course of this world (Romans 8:1, 5-6; 1 Corinthians 2:6, 12; Ephesians 2:2). The "god of this world" (2 Corinthians 4:4) tempts us to befriend the world and alienate ourselves from God (James 4:4).
