Why Do Good Things Happen to Bad People (Pack of 10)

Bad things happening to bad people, and good things happening to good people, makes sense to most people. 

But that is not the way things always go. Sometimes nice guys finish last, the bad guy gets the girl, and the cowboy in the black hat is the last one standing. In George Eliot’s novel, The Mill on the Floss, Edward Tulliver was so miffed about an enemy, he dictated a curse to inscribe in the family Bible. “It’s wicked,” his daughter objected. “It isn’t wicked,” Tulliver snapped. “It’s wicked that the raskills should prosper."

That is the problem: “Why do the wicked prosper?” This question was found in a four-thousand-year-old book (Job 21:7–15). It was pondered by the world’s wisest man, who observed, “It is sad but true. I have seen good people die young, and bad people live long prosperous lives” (cf. Ecclesiastes 7:15). A whole chapter of the Psalms is dedicated to it (Psalm 73). It bothered a great prophet enough that he took it before the righteous
judge (Jeremiah 12:1–4).
