James and John’s mother showed ill-advised ambition for her sons (Matthew 20:20–28). Her example is not one to emulate.

Do not misunderstand, though; Christians are to have ambition. Early Christians were taught to “earnestly desire the best gifts” (1 Corinthians 12:31). Paul was ambitious toward spiritual growth (Philippians 3:12–14) and extending the gospel (Romans 15:17–20). Christians
are to aspire to lead a quiet life (1 Thessalonians 4:11).

God wants to channel our ambitions. Here are some worthy ambitions for any follower of Christ.
