Acceptable Worship (Pack of 10)
Tract-0517Acceptable Worship (Pack of 10)
Jesus’ greatest sermon on worship was heard by only one person. A more unlikely meeting can hardly be imagined. He was a Jew; she was a Samaritan, and the Jews had no dealings with Samaritans. In fact, most Jews never traveled the road Jesus chose on this trip. He was a man; she was a woman. Most Jews would not be seen in public with a woman—not even their wives. He was righteous; she was immoral. She had an experienced sexual past—she had slept with at least six men. The man with whom she was now living was not her husband.
Yet she had religious interest. She asked Jesus a question regarding worship. He was happy to give her instruction that even His disciples would have loved to have gained. He said, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth”
(John 4:24).
Let us put ourselves in the picture. Worship is one thing that we must get “right” in religion (Matthew 15:9). To some who were getting it wrong, Paul wrote, “For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep” (1 Corinthians 11:30). Man’s spirit
is his heart, the private world where he thinks, feels, and wills (Proverbs 4:23). God looks at the heart in worship (1 Samuel 16:7; Matthew 15:8).
